In plain English

0% APR financing is a promotional auto loan, usually from the carmaker's captive lender, that charges zero interest for the life of the loan. With no interest, every dollar you pay reduces the balance, and the loan costs you nothing beyond the sticker price. These deals are not handed out widely. They typically require strong credit and the shortest loan terms, and a manufacturer often forces you to choose between the 0% rate and a cash rebate instead. Read the offer closely, because a longer-term version of the same promo may quietly carry a real interest rate.

001The Real Cost
$30,000
On a $30,000 loan over 60 months, 0% APR means you pay exactly $30,000, or $500 a month. The same loan at a normal rate would add thousands in interest. But if taking 0% means forfeiting a $3,000 rebate, the rebate plus a low outside-lender rate could beat it.

01Why it matters

True 0% financing saves you every dollar of interest, but you usually have to give up a cash rebate to get it, so the cheaper choice depends on the math, not the headline.

02The math, step by step

On a $30,000 loan over 60 months, 0% APR means you pay exactly $30,000, or $500 a month. The same loan at a normal rate would add thousands in interest. But if taking 0% means forfeiting a $3,000 rebate, the rebate plus a low outside-lender rate could beat it.

03What this is NOT

Do not confuse with 0% APR balance-transfer credit card offers

Auto 0% APR is the full loan term with no interest if you pay on schedule, not a teaser rate that jumps after a few months like a credit card promo. Missing the qualifying terms (top credit, short term) means you do not get it at all.
